Colonial District FOCA Meets in Washington, DC

Colonial District FOCA, meeting was held October 20, 2007, at St. Nicholas Cathedral on embassy Row in Washington, DC.

Walter Alesevich, Esq., District Governor, called the Colonia district meeting to order and introduced the gusts, FOCA Vice President Polly Walker and for husband, Todd, former FOCA National President Apollo Manchuk, and Leda Dwonczyk, Past Colonial District Governor.  The Convention had a visit from Metropolitan Theodosius, who was in the Washington, DC, area to attend a reception at the Embassy of the Vatican, that evening.

A Memory eternal was sung for Nation's Capital R Club Chpater members LTC Walter Skuby, USAF, Ret. and MSGT Anne Peregrim, USMC, Ret., who recently passed away.

District Spiritual Advisor Fr. Ted Boback reported that he would like to start new FOCA Chapters with in the Diocese of Washington churches and missions.  Letters will be sent to those churches to encourage enthusiasm for the FOCA.

District Kudos to...Walter Alesevich and Leda Dwonczyk were congratulated for their chairmanship of the 2005 National FOCA Convention.  Paul Kavchok was congratulated for his many years as Corresponding Secretary of the District and for compiling the District report book. 

St. Stephen's OCF, under the co-chairmanship of Mr. Paul Federonko and Ms. Lisa Lelo, will again sponsor the 71st Novgodny Ball on 20 January 2008, at the Trevose Hilton, Trevose, PA.  

The District Religious Education Day was held October 27, at St. Mark Orthodox Church, Bethesda, MD.  Education speaker was Fr. Thomas Hopko, former Dean, St. Vladimir Orthodox Church.

Nominating Committee candidates, Lt. Governor Larry Skvir, Recording Secretary Marcella Hydock and Two-Year Nominating Committee member Nina Lochell won their elections unopposed in the district's staggered office elections;  other District Officers, whose term(s) will be up in 2008, are:  Governor, Walter Alesevich, Esq., Recording Secretary Lisa Lelo, and Treasurer Barbara Freimann.

Colonial District events include:  Winter board meeting, January 2008, Bowling Tournament Winter 2008 in Philadelphia, Religious Education Day, Nativity Fast 2008 in Baltimore, and the 2008 Colonial District Convention will be held in Trenton on October 11, 2008. 

The District voted to sponsor a seminarian from St. Vladimir Seminary at $100/month, to assist with seminarian living expenses.  Also, the district voted to donate $100 to Project Mexico, Tijuana, Mexico. 

Finally, after the Vice President Walker's presentation on the FOCA Married Student Housing Project at St. Tikhon Seminary, the District Convention body unanimously voted to pledge $1,000 per year for three years towards the housing project.
